On December 9, 2023, a remarkable meteorological event unfolded across northeast Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, west Kentucky, and Tennessee. The Storm’s Path
Clusters of thunderstorms developed by mid-morning in northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel. These storms, gaining in intensity, lifted northeast across west Kentucky and Tennessee during the late morning and continued into the afternoon. West Kentucky experienced the brunt of the severity, where a few storms escalated alarmingly.
The Tornado in Todd County
A particularly prominent storm surged from Clarksville, TN, into southern Todd County around 2 PM, later moving into Logan County. The National Weather Service (NWS) conducted damage surveys and confirmed the touchdown of an EF-2 tornado in Todd County. The damage escalated to an EF-3 rating just south of our border in the Clarksville, TN area. This formidable tornado carved a path for approximately 48 miles, with 13 of those miles in our forecast area.
